What is RENEGADE about?
RENEGADE is a joint venture started by Galvin Harrison and Kevin Broadbery working respectively in fine arts and photography. They have initially teamed up with journalist Julie Rosendal and the SMP agency in Italy who will assist RENEGADE in their quest to become a truly global concept.
The origins of RENEGADE are like most ideas born out of the roots of disenchantment and the desire to see and experience something innovative and ground-breaking in the field of contemporary photography. This is not a vehicle for improving the quality of photography but more a positive alternative for experiencing and discussing the issues of contemporary photography.
RENEGADE'S mission is firstly, to provide an alternative, dynamic, passionate, innovative and global platform for cutting edge contemporary photography, regardless of age, gender, nationality - and secondly, to generate support for the artists in their quest to show quality work that is not being seen or exhibited elsewhere.
RENEGADE will endeavor to set itself apart from the established art institutions by working with the following basic principles:
Keeping the projections free for the general public, actively working for the best interests of the involved artists by establishing a working internal dialogue and using any means possible to reach the desired audience and also by maintaining a standard of excellence for all the content that is displayed.
RENEGADE'S focus is on photography and short films, intentionally so in order to foster and develop an increased dialog with the viewer. A viewer that is fostered and moulded on an MTV and a multimedia that craves and thrives on short attention spans. This does not mean that the work RENEGADE is promoting does not require the contemplation and intellectual introspection that traditional painting and sculpture demands, but on the contrary wants to generate a proactive interest in the general public to contribute to the greater cultural debate regarding the issues of the day.
